TheStationeryStudio.com Survey Finds 93% of People Feel Thank You Notes are Necessary

December 7, 2016 - Buffalo Grove, IL – Monday, December 26th is National Thank You Note Day. It’s a day to say thank you to family and friends for the gifts you receive or to let them know how much you appreciate them. But with modern technology, do people feel it is still necessary to write a handwritten thank you note?

The Stationery Studio conducted a survey using SurveyMonkey asking people about their opinions on the importance of a thank you note. TheStationeryStudio.com asked the following questions and received responses from 549 people:

1. Do you feel that handwritten notes are necessary?
   • 93% said YES
   • 1.5% said NO
   • 1.5% said NOT SURE
   • 4.2% OTHER
2. How many handwritten thank you notes have you SENT in the past year?
   • 0 (3.5%)
   • 1-5 (22.5%)
   • 5-10 (24.5%)
   • More than 10 (49.5%)
3. How many handwritten thank you notes have you RECEIVED in the past year?
   • 0 (5.8%)
   • 1-5 (54.2%)
   • 5-10 (26.8%)
   • More than 10 (13.2%)
4. What is an acceptable form of a thank you for a BIRTHDAY GIFT? (respondents could pick from more than one):
   • An email (24.3%)
   • A handwritten note (95.4%)
   • A text (12.2%)
   • A phone call (44.3%)
   • In person (38.5%)
   • Other (6.6%)
5. What is an acceptable form of a thank you for a MILESTONE GIFT (baby, new home, anniversary, etc)? (respondents could pick from more than one):
   • An email (12.8%)
   • A handwritten note (96.5%)
   • A text (4.7%)
   • A phone call (22.3%)
   • In person (18.6%)
   • Other (4.2%)

The survey concluded that people still value a handwritten thank you note and view them as important. “Modern technology makes it easy and more convenient to say thank you, but people still appreciate and value a handwritten thank you note,” said The Stationery Studio President Renee Redman.
